What makes The Godfather so great?

Kiss the hand or die.

If you haven't seen The Godfather then you haven't lived. Well I really can't judge because I only just recently saw The Godfather for the first time this past week. I knew I would have to do it one day if I ever wanted to consider myself a movie lover. But seriously, what makes this movie so great? I just can't seem to put my finger on it. From the awesome soundtrack, to the riveting performances, The Godfather delivers. One thing bothers me though. Robert Duvall gave the most underrated performance of all time. Seriously, although his performance was very low key, I felt that he did an excellent job worthy of an oscar nomination. Sure this movie has enough nominations, but it could have had one more well deserved nomination. I can't really say why, but Duvall's performance really completed the movie for me.
